REHAB SUCCESS STORY Hard work in therapy enables resident to continue living independently

Our rehab star of the month is Mary Koski.

When Mary entered Bayshore, she was very weak and needed assistance getting around in a wheelchair, as well as dressing and grooming.

Bayshore’s therapists put together a specialized program where Mary would work on strengthening exercises and other activities so she could move around in a safe and secure manner.

Mary worked very hard with the goal of returning home and living independently once again. She achieved great success in her program. She is now able to walk, exercise and also take care of herself and all of her needs at home. The staff feels is ready to return home and can safely live independently. Mary commented, “I feel like I have accomplished all of my set out goals. My therapists did a great job.”

We wish Mary the best of luck and congratulate her on her efforts and accomplishments.

BAYSHORE LAUNCHES NEW PROGRAMS TO REWARD EXCELLENT STAFF

Bayshore is rolling out several new employee recognition programs this month.  We have a “Team of Excellence” comprised of individuals who walk around the facility during the day with a “box of smiles” to “catch staff in the act” of going above and beyond in helping residents.

We are also starting Team Jersey Fridays, where all employees who wear a sports jersey of their choice will be entered into a drawing for a prize. We are pretty sure the building will be a sea of purple and green (Shelley may be the only blue jersey around).

We are continuing the attendance initiative for September where any staff member who did not call in as absent for any day will be entered into a drawing for a gift card.  We are working hard to recognizethe hard work that our staff does each and every day to ensure the residents are safe and happy.

Thank you and keep up the great work!

BAYSHORE STAFF TAKE ON THE ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE

The employees at Bayshore know how to raise money for a good cause while having a good time too. Many of our employees have participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge where employees dump a bucket of ice water on their heads to promote awareness of ALS and encourage donations to research. Our administrator, Shelly Katzenburger, actually did the ALS ice bucket challenge in the lake. Trudy Gilbert and Alison Winterschault also stepped up to the challenge. The colder the water, the more fun it was to watch!

REHAB SUCCESS STORY: Resident not able to put pressure on her right leg returns home right as rain

Our rehab star of the month is Jowan Brand. When Jowan entered Bayshore, she was unable to put any weight or pressure on her right leg. Unable to walk, she was limited to a wheelchair in order to get around. Bayshore’s team of physical therapists put together a specialized program where Jowan would work on strengthening exercises, pain management, walking with a walker and climbing stairs.

Motivated to work hard in therapy so she could return home to her dog, Jowan achieved great success in her program. She is now able to walk over 300 feet with her walker and is grateful to the staff of Bayshore. “They were all helpful and careful,” says Jowan. “I’m happy to be going home, but if I cannot make it at home, I would be happy to come back here.”

While she is always welcome to come back, we wish Jowan much luck with her transition back home and know she is going to do great.

REHAB SUCCESS STORY: Recovering from a fall, resident regains ability to walk

Marvin Vigoren entered Bayshore Residence after suffering from a fall. He entered our residence in a wheelchair, unable to walk. Our team of therapists worked together to create a plan of care which would allow Marvin to get back on his feet as quickly as possible. Within a short period of time, Marvin began walking within the facility and learned how to walk with his new orthotics. Marvin is now able to walk 200 ft without rest and continues to work on his exercise programs. He has returned home and will continue to work on building his strength, balance and coordination. We congratulate Marvin on his success.

RESIDENTS THANK STAFF DURING NURSING HOME WEEK

During Nursing Home Week in May, the residents had a great time and were able to thank the staff for all the work they do. The week-long celebration included all the shifts into the fun. Staff received thank you cards signed by managers, t-shirts, food, and prizes and participated in sports trivia with residents, dressing up, and a carnival.  It was a successful week with a lot of happiness, fun, and teamwork.  Managers and the activity department hosted the booths at the carnival.  A special thanks to the activity department who planned, coordinated, and carried out the events.  Bayshore had an awesome week!
